Yeah, I'm the TAX MAN!

April is tax month... as if you need to be reminded. But did you know that taxes and taxation and tax problems show up in a variety of musical elements aside from the Beatles?

Come by and check out our display! See if you can figure out why certain things are included.

Irving Berlin wrote a song, on contract from the IRS, called I Paid My Income Tax Today... you can see the full US Archives documentation of the approval of funds to get it orchestrated, parts copies, and recorded at here http://www.blueoregon.com/2008/04/a-tax-day-messa/

New video resources in the UWM Libraries

The UWM users now have access to several new video databases. They include documentaries, ethnographic films, newsreels, and much more, nearly all with full side-by-side transcripts. You can also use the online 'clipping' tool to make excerpts to embed in your lectures. Quite remarkable.

Go play !

March is Music in Our Schools Month!

To celebrate, we've filled the glass cases in the Music Library with a wide variety of music education related materials... here's a sample.

Stop by and take a closer look!

Happy Birthday, Dr Seuss!

March 2nd would have been Theodore Geisel's 109th birthday (if I did my math correctly). To celebrate, Eleanor Peterson (Music Library Intern) and Sarah Reynolds (Music & Curriculum student assistant) put a bulletin board together and pulled a selection of his books for display.

Can you identify the books that the graphics are from ?

New Resource! Smithsonian Global Sound!

The UWM Libraries have subscribed to Smithsonian Global Sound! This is a wonderful resource that includes nearly everything in Smithsonian Folkways, plus music from a number of other record labels that now fall under Smithsonian's auspices.

John Lennon... has it really been 32 years?!

December 8th is the 32nd anniversary of John Lennon's murder. It seems inconceivable to me. We've together put a display of materials related to Lennon.

Do you remember where you were when you heard the news?

We've also gotten in a new, quite comprehensive, collection of his letters (there's an audio version as well - I believe that the Media Library will be getting it)
