Banned Book Week 24 Sept - 1 Oct 2011

It's Banned Book Week and the Music & Curriculum Library has gone all out. It's not just books that are banned - Music (and musicians themselves), recordings, songbooks, books about musicians.

Current on display on the 2nd floor of the East Wing of the Library are several cases and bulletin boards that take a look at banned and censored materials.

MANY THANKS to the students in the Music & Curriculum Library for their help in gathering materials, wrapping books in brown paper, putting up displays, etc. You all ROCK! :)

Welcome to the 2011-12 school year!

Welcome Back ! The school year has begun and the Music/Curriculum Library staff are here and ready to help out. I'm hoping to use the blog more frequently this year. There are lots of fun things going on that I'll try to let everyone know about and then there are some serious things as well... Don't forget that you can follow us on Twitter too. I post a 'free download of the week' for either classical music or folk/world music pretty much every week (the name is a bit of a misnomer since there are weeks when we don't have one).

The first piece of amazing news for this year is that JSTOR has announced that they're releasing all pre-1923 US and pre-1870 International journal content to the world at large. Now when you search in Google Scholar and find an old article in JSTOR, you'll be able to get it for free! (Don't forget that UWM users *never* have to pay for articles anyway, you can always get them for free from the UWM Libraries InterLibrary Loan office).

Here's an image of the JSTOR website announcing this news.

Here's the link to read more about it yourself directly at JSTOR

That's it for now. I'll be back soon !
